About Us

The Movement for African Emancipation (MAE) has been formed at a critical period in the history of Nigeria. Our people are groaning under the weight of severe poverty, lack of good education and health care caused by a lack of good government. We have been failed by our entire political and ruling class, by the entire leadership and elites of this country. At the root of it all, as we’re seeing all across Africa, is a continuation of colonialism through other means and the rejection of the African way of organizing society.
Our history stems from a brutal era of slavery and colonisation that has subjected our people to continuous enslavement in different forms. Where we were enslaved and colonised directly to provide goods, raw materials, and labour to the colonisers, all we still do is to provide cheap raw materials to the neo-colonisers even though we are supposedly independent. It is, therefore, not surprising that our ruling class is completely lacking in ideas of how to move the country forward. This is because our rulers and elites are only interested in making profit off the sales of our resources to foreigners and to accumulate wealth for themselves at the expense of the vast majority of the people. It is obvious that the leaders have no care at all for the people of Nigeria, as we see all over Africa.  Which is why they ensure the people live in a great deal of poverty while they live in extreme wealth, which is why they ensure the masses have no health care while they enjoy the best health care in the world, which is why we have no good roads and rail and other transportation while our leaders can travel by helicopters and private jets.

The only solution to this predicament is to build a new African Citizen, one who is conscious of the roots of our crisis, and who is able to intervene and interact in society to enlighten the masses on the need for a fundamental change in the way we are governed.
The new African Citizen is aware of and has pride in the great history of African civilizations, including in our part of Africa currently called Nigeria which is an abstract geographical expression. This land once consisted of several civilizations such the Nok, Ibo, Ife, Borno-Kanem, Benin, and so on. These civilisations built great political systems, invented iron smelting, traded across Africa and in some cases across the oceans, and had built into their societies critical thinking and tolerance for others beliefs.
The new African citizen is proud of his/her own indigenous languages and cultures. He or she is not tied to static culture, but modernizes, and builds society on the foundation of positive attributes of traditions passed down by ancestors.  Such attributes as communal care, rather than individualism and selfishness, and a drive for individual achievement based on support from the community without taking from others more than is your due.
Our emancipation is necessary, both mental and material. Without this emancipation we will continue to be in bondage. As the great Bob Marley sang, “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery.”  Most of our people are aware that they are ruled by parasites, but have been indoctrinated to believe that they are unable to change their condition. People have also been indoctrinated to believe that foreign ways are better than theirs.  Our emancipation from mis-leadership and exploitation therefore depends on a fight for our mental emancipation, so that new leaders will rise to lead our struggle.
This is the urgent task for us Nigerians today – our emancipation depends on a new mass, critical consciousness. And this is what Movement for African Emancipation has been formed to do. To be a platform for the rising of new young leaders who think in new ways and look for African solutions to our current predicament which arises from our historical situation.
Therefore, now is the time for a new generation of leaders to arise for freedom for the peoples of Nigeria and of Africa. Join the Movement for African Emancipation to realize the unfinished dream of our forefathers for the emancipation of our motherland from a selfish ruling class and puppets of foreign imperialists.
